Olivia of thelostgurl for our Feature Friday today!
What if I told you that you’re still wasting money even if you’re trying your hardest to save it?
You might fill out your organizer or excel sheet every day or month for your expenses or you might keep track of every single penny you spend. Whatever it is you do or no matter how much you’re actually saving, I bet there’s room to save a little bit more money! Who doesn’t love to save more money even when you thought you already were saving enough. There are certain things we buy, some more often than others, that we really don’t even need to waste our money on.
These 7 things are just some of the things we waste our money on everyday.
Your morning coffee– I get it, I need my coffee fix too. Invest in a coffee maker and get a travel sized coffee mug. I bought a k-cup machine at Wal-mart for $50 and it makes delicious coffee. Buying a $5 coffee everyday for a month equals $150 you could be saving each month!
Pre-packaged meat/ food– Meat can be very expensive. Try buying a whole chicken and using it throughout the week for different meals. Or eat more vegetables, they are healthy for you and a lot cheaper. Dairy can be expensive too, especially shredded cheese. Buying a block of cheese and shredding it yourself is a great way to save.
Bottled water– For some odd reason we’re obsessed with buying bottled water. Most of the time the water in the bottle is just the same as your tap water or it’s filled with chemicals. Plus plastic is horrible for the environment. Buy a home water filter and save that bottled water money.
Bank fees– Have you taken a good look at your bank statements? Some banks charge ridiculous amounts for fees. You don’t even understand what the fee is for! A better option is going to a credit union.
Designer clothes– Those $100 jeans are the same material as those $5 jeans at the thrift store. You could even find name brand clothes at the thrift store for half the price. I never understood why people buy expensive kids clothes or shoes when the kid is just going to grow out of them in a month. Or buy designer clothes for themselves and most likely won’t even wear it.
Name brand products– Most of the time that name brand product has the same stuff in it as the generic brand does. Don’t let the name fool you. Whether it’s beauty products, household products or food products, all you’re doing is paying extra money for the name on it.
Couponing– I don’t do the whole couponing thing, I never really saw the point in it and to be honest I don’t have the patience to sit there and do all that math that comes along with it. But you could be wasting money on things you don’t even need just because you have a coupon for it. Now if you have a coupon for something you need, by all means use it! There’s no reason to spend money on that item just because you have a coupon for it.
Are you guilty of wasting extra money? It’s okay to admit it, nobody’s perfect. I just started realizing that I waste money on a lot of these things.
